Upon seeing Elastica play live at Axis in 1995, childhood friends Meredith Byam and Melissa Gibbs were inspired to start a band. The two Lakeville, MA natives formed Heavy Stud (named after the Ampeg guitar of the same name) in 1997 and helped christen Boston's most rock 'n' roll venue, The Abbey Lounge where they still hold court once a month. The band's twin guitar / dueling lead vocal attack, inspired in equal parts by The Beatles' hooks and craftsmanship and the seven-day weekend enthusiasm of Poison's "Talk Dirty To Me", has landed them coveted opening slots for The Datsuns, Juliana Hatfield, and The Real Kids.

In 1999, the band released a five-song self-titled EP, followed up by a 2-song CD single in 2000. The two songs - "Don't Expect" and "Are You Ready?" sound like twin bolts of thunder and lightening: raw, snotty, and brimming with the humor and hubris of a band out to conquer the world". - The Boston Globe

The band's full-length debut CD, Straight Out of Lakeville, was completed last year at Fort Apache Studios. It was produced by Scott Riebling (The Gravel Pit, The Gentlemen) and mixed by Sean Slade (Radiohead, Hole). Three of these new songs have appeared in recent episodes of the WB television series Dawson's Creek. Due to the lack of having a steady rhythm section to play out live with, Byam and Gibbs decided to hold off releasing the record until they could properly promote the CD. That time has finally arrived with the addition of a crack rhythm section in Star Ghost Dog alums Owen Burkett (bass) and Chris Foley (drums, ex-SSD, Jen Trynin).

Most recently, the Stud were invited to partake in the 25th Annual WBCN Rock n' Roll Rumble where they played an incredibly rocking set but inevitably lost, much like their favorite Boston bands before them such as Le Peste', The Shods and Morphine (the latter the Stud ladies sang back up vocals on the band's Like Swimming LP).
